Born and raised in Maine, Josephine Alexander lives and paints in North Mississippi, having lived in the American south since 2007. Josephine lives with her husband Randy and son Cooper and operates a small vegetable farm. Josephine was introduced to oil painting through a course at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota but is otherwise self-taught. Painting recreationally on and off for the past several years, Josephine began exhibiting her work in 2023. She received an Merit Award for her painting “Overflow” at the New Orleans Art Association 25th National Juried Show in 2024.
Artist Statement: “I create figurative works in oil paint, often with magical or imagined elements. My work explores the experience of womanhood as well as the relationship between humans and the natural world.”
